About Charles University

Charles University is the oldest and most prestigious university in the Czech Republic. University is well-known around the world since it is founded by a charter issued on 7th of April 1348 by Charles IV. When establishing University, a model of Bolognas and Paris universities was followed. In the beginning, it had 4 faculties: theological, liberal arts, law and medicine. Charles University has been always a centre of Czech intelligence and also centre against suppressing forces in Czech society. Students from Charles university lead demonstration against a totalitarian regime, which ceased to exist in 1989. Nowadays, Charles University is place with modern unviersity life, involved in plenty of international cooperations and is playing an important role in a broad specrtum of European and global programmes.
There are 17 faculties, 3 university institutes, 6 other units and 5 service facilities at University. In total, there are 8074 employees of University – 4653 people form academic and research staff and 3421 is another staff.
University is ranked in TOP 2% of the approximately 18,000 institutions of higher institutions in the world. According to QS ranking, Charles was 279th best university in the world and according to Academic Ranking of World Universities, it was among 201-300 best universities in the world.

About First Faculty of medicine in Prague

First Faculty of Medicine is part of Charles University (there are 5 faculties of medicine within Charles university – 3 of them are in Prague, 1 in Pilsen and 1 in Hradec Králové). It is one of the first four founding faculties of Charles University. There is the almost complete spectre of medicine and health professions covered during studies: Faculty prepares future medical doctors, scientists and health professionals in a modern and a friendly fashion.
Currently, 1700 academics work at the Faculty, 330 of them are professors and docents. On average there is 1 teacher for every 3 students.
Employability of graduates of First medical faculty is one of the best in the Czech Republic. Around 99,7% of graduates (out of 453) from graduation year 2010/2011 found a job within 6 months.

Every year there are around 4000 applicants mainly from Czech Republic, Slovakia and abroad (800 international students from 500 different countries), who would like to study at First Faculty of medicine. Currently, there are 4500 students enrolled, teaching is organised within groups of 25 students. Every year there are 550 graduates within one of the accredited study programs.

Recognition in EU and Iran

Degree from the First Faculty of Medicine in Prague is fully recognized in European Union, Iran and in most countries for at least limited registration. Criteria in other than European countries may vary, therefore it recommended to ask governmental bodies about details.

Scholarships offered

The First Faculty of Medicine is taking part in programmes under Higher Educational Acts of 1965 and the Federal Student Financial Assistance Programs in the USA (Title IV, HEA programs). Furthermore, First Faculty participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Stafford Program. (OPE ID Number G33004).

Students may also earn scholarships awarded by the Faculty.
1. Scholarship for academic results – is awarded to 10% of all students according to their average marks. The concrete sum of scholarship is announced every year according to a decision of dean.
2. Scholarship for a special purpose: in case of participation in educational and research activities, work in laboratories, participation in the development of information technology and international cooperation and others, Dean may award the scholarship. A scholarship is calculated individually.

Accommodation for students

Students may ask for accommodation, which is provided by the Faculty but are guaranteed only for 1st-year students. Students usually stay at dormitories Komenskeho, Kajetanka and Hvezda. All information about dormitories from Charles university may be found here: http://kam.cuni.cz/KAMEN-1.html
Another and very popular option is flat sharing, which may reduce monthly cost to 150-200€ per month.

STUDY PROGRAM General medicine

General medicine is 6-years undergraduate study programme. General medicine programme ends with degree of MUDr. – Medicinae Universae Doctor (MUDr.) – which equals to M.D. Tuition fee is 330 000 CZK for one year of General medicine.

There are 150 students accepted to General medicine programme each year. On the other hand, competition is very tough, and around studies of around 60% are closed in first years.

STUDY PROGRAM Dental medicine

Full-time 5 year program leading to the Master degree MDDr. – “Medicinae Dentium Doctor” = Doctor of Dental Medicine. There are 20 places offered for students of Dental medicine.

No English certificate is needed for studying

Tuition fees and related costs

Tuition fee for one academic year of General medicine is 360 000 Kč (cca 12 212€). It must be paid in single instalment

Living costs:Living costs for Prague are higher in comparison with other cities in the Czech Republic. Minimum living costs are around 300€ per month, more realistic estimation is 500€ per month (11 EUR/ month is public transportation, meals in canteens start from 3,5 EUR per meal, accommodation starts from 150-200€ per month).

Total costs of stay for one studying year:Total cost for one year of studying is around 17200€.

Entrance examination

An entrance examination is taking place in Prague on 14.6.2019. (There is also an additional date for Prague’s examination on 28th of June 2019 which is designated for those who can not attend the regular date because of illness or some other serious reason). Application deadline is 30th of April (all documents must be delivered to the Faculty and application fee of 640 Kč must be credited to the Faculty account).

Entrance examination contains from following subjects: written test in English from standard college biology, chemistry and physics or math and an interview (if an applicant passed an entrance examination). Successful candidates must achieve at least 244 points out of 330.
Calculators and periodic tables are not allowed.

Results are given on the same day.
