Faculty of Medicine in Olomouc is part of Palacky University. Palacky University was established in 1573 and is the oldest university in Moravia and second-oldest university in the Czech Republic. University in situated in a relatively small town, Olomouc, which has 100.000 inhabitants and 25.000 university students. It has 8 faculties in total and around 1850 academical employees. Latin name of University is Universitas Palackiana Olomucencis.

About Faculty of medicine in Olomouc

History: Teaching of medicine was started at Philosophical faculty back in 1753, in 1782 Faculty was separated and created as independent institutions. At beginning of 19th century, number of medical students was the highest in Autriand lands (after Graz). The faculty was closed on 1873 and re-open in 1946.
Present: Currently, there are 540 teachers, 1750 pregraduate students, 400 postgraduate students and 200 students in the English language. International students may apply to programmes taught in English language – General medicine, which is awarded the degree of MUDr. (Medicinae Universae Doctor) and Dental medicine, which is awarded the degree of MDDr. (Medicinae Dentium Doctor)
Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry is active in theoretical and clinical fields of expertise. Main research areas are the following: allergies, immue-pathological processes, diagnosis and treathments of tumor, molecular disorder of sacharide and lipid metabolism and inborn developmental defects and hereditary diseases.

Recognition in EU and Iran

The degree is internationally recognized, which means that graduates may work in European Union and Iran without restrictions.

Olomouc is a student city with 100.000 inhabitants situated in Moravia, whereas there are around 25.000 students currently living in the city.

STUDY PROGRAM General medicine

General medicine is pregraduate 6 years study programme in 12 semesters.

Around 70-80 students will be offered admission. 
There are following subjects taught in the first 4 semesters of study: anatomy, biology, biochemistry, histology and physiology. In 5th to 7th semester, there are Pathology, microbiology, Introduction to Internal Medicine and Surgery taught. After that, an instruction to clinical subjects are on curriculum (Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obsterics and Gynecology, Neurology), together with public health care related subjects (Social Medicine, Medical Law). Students of General medicine can also take subjects like Medical Ethics, Latin and others.
Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry closely cooperates with the Faculty Hospital, where 1396 beds for patients are situated. There are final examination in 11th and 12th semester with state examination in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Public Health and Pediatrics.
After graduation, a degree of MUDr. (Doctor of General Medicine is awarded to students). Degree MUDr. is an equivalent of M.D. Tuition fee for study program is 10 000€ per year.

STUDY PROGRAM Dental medicine

Programme of The Dental medicine is pregraduate 5 years study programme in 10 semesters. It combines education in General medicine with special focus on theoretical and practical dentisty.

There are around 15-20 students admitted for Dental medicine.

Curriculum
The first 4 semesters contains theoretical subjects – Anatomy, Biology, Biochemistry, Histology and Physiology. Preclinical subjects (Pathology, Microbiology, Introduction to Internal medicine, Surgery) are taught in 5th and 6th semester. In upcoming semesters, there clinical subjects taught (Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neurology), as well as subjects in public health care (Social Medicine, Medical Law).
Studies of Dental medicine end after 10th semester with final examinations from Operative Dentistry, Orthodontics and Oral Surgery.
Graduates are awarded with degree of MDDr. (Doctor of Dental medicine).

Tuition fees and related costs

Entrance exam

All applicants for the master degree programme must sit our entrance examination, which consists of a test paper in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.
Applicants, who are not native English speakers, will also be required to either produce a certificate of English proficiency (Cambridge Exam minimum FCE, IELTS minimum score 6, or TOEFL minimum score 87) or take our own English test. Applicants who submit a proof that their secondary or tertiary education is/was carried out in English will be exempt from the language test.

An application fee is 690Kč.
