Charles University
Charles University is the oldest and most prestigious university in the Czech Republic. University is well-known around the world since it is founded by a charter issued on 7th of April 1348 by Charles IV. When establishing University, a model of Bolognas and Paris universities was followed. In the beginning, it had 4 faculties: theological, liberal arts, law and medicine. Charles University has been always a centre of Czech intelligence and also centre against suppressing forces in Czech society. Students from Charles university lead demonstration against a totalitarian regime, which ceased to exist in 1989. Nowadays, Charles University is place with modern university life, involved in plenty of international cooperations and is playing an important role in a broad spectrum of European and global programmes.
There are 17 faculties, 3 university institutes, 6 other units and 5 service facilities at University. In total, there are 8074 employees of University – 4653 people form academic and research staff and 3421 is another staff.
University is ranked in TOP 2% of the approximately 18,000 institutions of higher institutions in the world. According to QS ranking, Charles was 279th best university in the world and according to Academic Ranking of World Universities, it was among 201-300 best universities in the world.
About Faculty of medicine in Hradec Kralove
Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové is part of Charles University, which has 5 faculties of Medicine in total. It was established on 25th of November 1945 as the first faculty in East Bohemia. There are three pillars of faculty – education, science and research and foreign relations. There were more 10 000 graduates of Faculty since its establishment. The faculty has more than 1900 students in Bachelor, Magister and Doctoral study programmes.
Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králohe is involved in international cooperation. Besides study staying abroad for up to 2 semesters, students are encouraged to take part in internships offered by the international institution IFMSA. Furthermore, the Faculty of Medicine has great cooperation with MAYO clinic in Rochester, USA, where students go for their practicals.
Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové is one of the best research and educational institution for studying medicine in the Czech Republic. There is a great ratio between teachers and students: there are only 3 students assigned to one teacher. Therefore one third of students in Hradec Králové are foreigners.

Where is Hradec Kralove located?
Hradec Králové is a city of the Czech Republic. The city’s economy is based on food-processing technology, photochemical, electronics manufacture and IT. Traditional industries include musical instrument manufacturing – the best known being PETROF pianos. The city lies at the confluence of the Elbe and the Orlice river close to Krkonose (Giant Mountains), the highest Czech mountains, with its peak, Snezka (Snowhill), of 1602m.
STUDY PROGRAM General medicine
Study programme General medicine has 6 years and graduates are awarded degree the of MUDr. (Medicinae Universae Doctor – Doctor of General Medicine, equal to M.D.). It is a full-time study programme in the English language. Cost for entrance examination is 310.000 CZK for General medicine.
There are 105 students admitted to program General medicine.
The first block of the urriculum is devoted to the basic theoretical subjects and the initial contacts with the patients. The 3rd and 4th years are dedicated to the preclinical disciplines, physical examination in internal medicine and surgery and some clinical disciplines. The other clinical disciplines are scheduled in the 5th study year. The 6th year is organized as a bed-side clinical training in the hospitals in the north-eastern Bohemia. The study programme is finished by the state rigorous examination consisting of 5 subjects (Internal medicine, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Hygiene and Preventive Medicine and Social Medicine).

Tuition fees and related costs
The net annual tuition fees for English programs for entry in October 2019 were fixed by the Faculty at a rate of:
- 310,000.- CZK for General Medicine program (6 years program)
- 340,000.- CZK for Dentistry program (5years program) – discontinued since 2022/2023

If you want to be admitted to Hradec Kralove Faculty of medicine, you must pass written and oral test.

Entrance exam dates
The entrance test will be held on 19th of May 2022 in Hradec Kralove – deadline for application is 30th of April 2022. Only passport and application is required. Application fee is 820 CZK. There are also entrance exam organised by cooperating partners of the Faculty.
