The Slovak medical university (Slovenská zdravotnícka Univerzita – SZU) is the third medical university in Slovakia that offers medical studies in English language. It is located in Bratislava and unlike other universities, it is not governed by the Ministry of education, but by Ministry of the health of Slovakia. The University is part of The European University Association (EUA) that represents more than 800 universities and national rectors’ conferences in 48 European countries; and Inter Academy Medical Panel (from 2000). The university is also part of Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes (European union of medical specialists) and runs under ECTS system. This makes education at the Faculty of medicine fully recognized in Europe and most countries of the world.

There are 4 faculties of the University:

  • Faculty of medicine
  • Faculty of public health
  • Faculty of nursing and professional medical studies
  • Faculty of health

Students are in touch with patients during their studies in Hospital of Slovak medical university that has 14 ambulances and 5 laboratories. Students can also go for exchange study programs within the program of Erasmus+ or Erasmus Mundus. The faculty offers English program General medicine with tuition fees of 9000€ per one academic year (2 semesters). There are 36 students accepted every year with a written entrance examination.

Entrance exam – Slovak medical university

The entrance exams are usually organized at the end of June or beginning of July. There are 80 questions from biology and 80 from chemistry with a total duration of 150 minutes. There are 4 points awarded per each question, totally students may get 640 points. The booklets can be ordered from the University. Students with the best results will get admission.

Documents needed for registration at Slovak medical university

If you want to apply for General medicine at the Faculty of medicine in Slovak medical university, please prepare the following documents:

  • notary copy of school leaving certificate with apostille
  • recognition of completed course – nostrification
  • receipt of payment for application fee 70€
  • medical certificate of health condition fitting the study at university and performance of profession within the chosen study programme including the proof of vaccination against Hepatitis B
  • Curriculum vitae (in English)
  • translated birth certificate
  • copy of passport or ID card
  • passport size picture
